Imagine the perfect beach. Soft coral sand, warm waters, blue skies and almost permanent sunshine. Imagine Cayman Islands.

Lying approximately five hundred miles south of Miami, the Cayman Islands bask in the Caribbean sunshine. The capital, George Town, hosts the many financial institutions that have made Grand Cayman their home.

Forgetting the business and busy town centre, however, and George Town is also the start of Seven Mile Beach. This magnificent beach sweeps around to the West Bay area and is the stuff of movies.

Take a walk early morning or late evening when the sun chairs from the beachfront hotels are empty. The gentle lapping of the ocean can be the only sand as the walker leaves the hotels behind and follows the path of the never-ending beach. There is no restriction on walking the beach as the whole beach is a public area.

Grand Cayman Island Has a Sea Temperature of Eighty Degrees

Alternatively, a late night swim in the 80 degree water is an experience akin to stepping into an open air spa. The water is safe with a reef protecting the extensive beach area.

The beach is home to many of the luxury hotels and condominiums on the island and so there is a wealth of beach bars where there is always the option to stop and take refreshment before continuing to explore and enjoy the beach area.

A tribute to the area is that the beach has recently been awarded the “Caribbean’s Best Beach” award by Caribbean Travel and Life magazine.

As the whole of Seven Mile Beach is a public area, weekends are a joy to see. Residents bring their barbecues and the whole family join them in making the most of the lovely area and the incredible weather.

The people of Cayman Islands are very friendly and it is not unusual to be invited to join in the celebrations.

Snorkelling is popular in this area. There are reefs to explore, and an artificial reef has been constructed opposite the Marriott Hotel. With such a great expanse to swim and snorkel it is quite common to swim with turtle and a variety of colourful and inquisitive fish.

A Beach with 24 Hour a Day Appeal

By night or by day, Seven Mile Beach is almost a resort of its own. It has amenities and natural wonders to attract those seeking entertainment or just those who prefer to enjoy the quite wonderful natural bay area. Or perhaps for those who seek both.

Even after the sun has gone down, the warm Caribbean air will still entice visitors and residents away from their homes and welcome them to the sandy wonder of Seven Mile Beach.

Nice article. You capture the essence of the island beautifully. I recommend avoiding the large hotels and stick to one of the many condominium resorts along Seven Mile Beach. The condo resorts are much less crowded and you get a full size apartment with your own fully equipped kitchen to make snacks or meals if you really feel like it. There are lots of great restaurants too though, so definately eat out a few times!
Try Cayman Vacations for condo resorts or Cayman Restaurants to check out the many excellent restaurants on the island.
