Dolphin Discovery Cayman, the newest attraction on Grand Cayman Island, is run by Grupo Dolphin Discovery, an organization with over fourteen years of experience in running swim with dolphins programs throughout Mexico and the Caribbean. The company has facilities around the Caribbean which house 120 dolphins, making it the world’s largest organization of this kind. The company has a mandate to provide a natural and safe habitat for their dolphins and a philosophy which emphasizes education to instill an ecological conscience in its guests.
Location of Dolphin Discovery and Admission Costs of Programs
Located directly across from Botswain’s Beach Turtle Farm in the West Bay area of Grand Cayman, Dolphin Discovery Cayman is 10km from George Town- about a 25 minute taxi ride. The dolphin swim programs run daily at 9:00am, 11:00am, and 1:00pm making it an ideal excursion for cruise ship passengers. Children between the ages of 8 and 11 can participate only when accompanied by an adult. Prices vary depending on the program and range from $99 to $159 US for adults and $79 to $118 US for children 8 to 11. Every admission to Dolphin Discovery Cayman comes with a free ticket to enter Botswain’s Beach Turtle Farm.
Multiple Dolphin Swim Programs are Offered
Dolphin Discovery Cayman offers three programs for participants: The Royal Dolphin Swim, Dolphin Swim Adventure, and Dolphin Lovers’ Swim.
All participants will experience the “dolphin song” in which these gentle mammals serenade their audience with their unique clicking noises. As well, there is plenty of opportunity for free time with the dolphins where participants can swim at their own leisure in each of the swim programs.
The Royal Dolphin Swim is the more adventurous of the swim programs and allows visitors to participate in the foot push, handshake, kiss, and dorsal tow.
In the foot push, the dolphins push participants’ feet, lifting the visitor up through the water. In the dorsal tow participants can hang on to the dorsal fins of two dolphins for a speedy ride along the water’s surface.
In the Dolphin Swim Adventure, visitors can ride on the dolphin’s belly as they skim the surface of the water upside-down, providing their fins to hang on to, in addition to the ability to participate in several other activities.
The most basic program offered is the Dolphin Lovers’ Swim. This program does not provide the opportunity to ride on the dolphins, but does allow for ample interaction and swim times with the creatures, as well as an educational explanation from an underwater viewing platform.
The Dolphinarium Facilities on Grand Cayman
Dolphin Discovery Cayman features a snack bar with international cuisine, and the facility is wheelchair accessible, including the viewing platform. As well a small gift shop of dolphin souvenirs is handily located on-site, and for a small admission cost, a swimming pool for non-program participants to relax in. Lockers and showers are provided but towels are not.
